10 Foundations of Health
When you think of the foundations of health, what things come to mind? Take a moment to think about what health means to you.
Often, clients will want to be told what to do, what to eat, exactly how to exercise, and what will be the one thing that finally fixes all of their health issues. Here’s the thing…there isn’t a secret supplement out there or something you can do to “biohack” your health—if you see people talking about that- please run.
Think about building a house. (forgive me because my knowledge here is pretty basic)—BUT—you have to lay the foundation before you can do anything else. However, when it comes to health, people are all about skipping the foundation and finding quick fixes…which as we all know deep down—that simply doesn’t work and there is no quick fix to health.
It’s not sexy and it doesn’t get views and likes on social media but building your foundations and doing those things day after day—that’s what the “secret” is—there is no secret—it can be monotonous and boring — EMBRACE THAT!! That’s where you’ll find success, sustainability and a healthy lifestyle.
Below you will find my foundations of health. You may find other things included if someone else were to write this and that’s okay. It’s not cut and dry. These things are things that are my foundations, things I’ve found through research to be true, and from working with dozens of clients over the years. I’d encourage you to get out a pen and paper and write down your foundations of health and what matters to YOU!
FOUNDATIONS OF HEALTH
Joy in your life–it’s important!!
Move your body in some way every day (aim for 7,500 steps +)
Chew your food 20 plus times before swallowing and eat in a relaxed state-slow the F down
Lift weights 2-4 times per week
Get your HR up high 2x per week
Sleep 7-9 hours per night (regular sleep schedule)
Create meaningful connections in life
Water— aim for 1/2 your body weight in ounces per day
Eat mainly whole foods–Protein at every meal, color at every meal! Fiber too (14 grams per 1,000 calories)
Alcohol- eliminate or limit
So, until the above 10 things are a regular part of your life, don’t worry about the other little things—none of that matters until the foundation is built.
